பாடசாலைக் கட்டிடத்திற்குள் இருந்த புழுக்கத்தை ஆற்றங்கரைக் காற்று கழுவிக் கொண்டிருந்தது. அது வகுப்புக்களுக்கான நேரம் அல்ல. வகுப்பறைகள் வெறிச்சோடிப் போய்க் கிடந்தன. காவலாளியும் காணப் படவில்லை. முற்றிலும் ஆளரவமற்றிருந்தது அந்தப் பாடசாலைஇ மதிலோரமும் தொருவோரக் கட்டிடத்திற்குள்ளும் பதுங்கியிருந்த சிலரைத் தவிர. பச்சைக்கரைப் பாவாடையைப் போல வயலும் நீலத் தாவணி போல வாவியும் கதிரவன் எழும்போதும் விழும் போதும் சிவக்கும் வானமுமாக கண்களுக்கு எப்போதுமே விருந்து வைக்கும் பழுகாமம்இ நாட்டுக் கலைகளுக்கும் நாவன்மை மிக்க பேச்சாற்றலுக்கும் நாவூறவைக்கும் மீன்கறி வகைகளுக்கும் பேர்போனது. அந்த ஊரின் வரலாற்றுத் தொன்மை பற்றி மட்டக்களப்பு பூர்வ சரித்திரம் (ஏட்டுச் சுவடிப் பிரதி- வித்துவான் சா.இ.கமலநாதன்) புகழுடன் பேசுகிறது. எமது தாயகத்தின் பண்பாட்டுத் தொட்டில்களில் ஒன்றான பழுகாமத்தின் இப்போதைய சிறப்பிற்கு கண்டுமணி மகாவித்தியாலயமும் காரணம்

நினைவூட்டல்

படுவான்கரையை முன்னேற்றுவதற்கு ஓயாது உழைத்து அந்தப் பாடசாலை உருவாவதற்கு அத்திவாரமிட்ட கண்டுமணி ஐயாவின் பெயரே அந்தப் பாடசாலைக்கும் இடப்பட்டதில் ஊரில் உள்ள அனை வருக்கும் மகிழ்ச்சியே. இப்போது அது கிழக்குப் புறமாக தாராளமான அளவில் ஒரு மைதானமும் இரண்டு மாடிக் கட்டிடங்களும் பரிசோதனைச் சாலையுமாக அந்தப் பகுதியின் கொத்தணிப் பாடசாலை என்ற களையோடு இருந்தது. பழுகாமத்தில் இன்றிருக்கும் பெரியவர்களில் பலர் கற்றுத் தேர்ந்ததும் சமூக முன்னேற்றத்திற்கும் விடுதலைக்கும் உழைத்த பலருக்கு எழுத்தறிவித்ததும் அதன் மேல் எழுதப்படாத பெருமைகள்.

அவற்றோடு சேர்த்து தாயக மீட்புப் போரிலும் பங்கேற்கப் போகும் பெருமிதத்துடன் தலை நிமிர்ந்து நின்று கொண்டிருந்த அந்தப் பாடசாலையை ஒரு உழவு இயந்திரம் நெருங்கிக் கொண்டிருப்பதற்கான இரைச்சல் இப்போது கேட்கிறது. மதிலின் பின்னால் பதுங்கியிருக்கும் உருவங்கள் அசையா விட்டாலும் ஒரு பரபரப்பிற்கு உள்ளாகின்றன. ஒரேயொரு உருவம் மட்டும் மெதுவாக தலையை நீட்டி நெருங்கும் உழவு இயந்திரத்தை உற்றுப் பார்க்கிறது. அதன் முகத்தில் திருப்தி தெரிய தலையை உள்ளே இழுத்த பின் பின் புறத்தில் பதுங்கிக் கொண்டிருந்த உருவங்களுக்கான சைகைகள் கிடைக்கின்றன. இப்போது மறைந்திருந்த உருவங்களின் கைகளில் ஆயுதங்கள் தெரிகின்றன. பெரும்பாலானவை கைக்குண்டுகள். தாக்குதல் ரைபிள்கள் இரண்டு. உழவு இயந்திரத்தின் பெரிய சில்லுக்களின் மீதான சுரிக்காப்புத் தகடுகளிலும் பெட்டியிலுமாக வந்து கொண்டிருந்த ஆட்களில் சிலர் சீருடை அணிந்திருந்தார்கள்.

சிலர் சாதாரண உடையில் இருந்தார்கள். எல்லோருடைய கைகளிலும் ஆயுதங்கள். அருகிலிருந்த முகாமிலிருந்து மனித வேட்டைக்காகக் கிளம்பி வந்து கொண்டிருந்த அவர்கள் முதல் நாளும் அதே போல வந்து மனித வேட்டையை நடத்தியிருந்தார்கள். அவர்களின் வேட்டையில் குருத்துக்கள் முறிக்கப்பட்டன. எல்லா வயதுப் பெண்களும் சூறையாடப்பட்டார்கள். வயல் வாடிகளுக்குள்ளே உயிருடன் குடும்பங்கள் எரிக்கப்பட்டன. ஒவ்வொரு இரவும் உயிர் பிழைப்பதற்கான ஓய்வில்லாத ஒட்டமாக இருந்தது. பிய்த்தெறியப்பட்ட குடும்பங்கள் காடுகளிலும் வெளியூர்களிலுமாக கொடிய குற்றவாளிகளைப் போல ஒளித்தோடிக் கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.

மனித வேட்யைக்காரர்கள் தகப்பனுக்காக மகனையும் தமையனுக்காக தங்கையையும் குதறிக் கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். அவ்வகையான வெறியாட்டத்திற்காக வந்து கொண்டிருந்த அந்தக் கும்பல் பழுகாமம் கண்டுமணி மகாவித்தியாலயத்தை நெருங்கியபோது திடீரெனத் தோன்றிய ஒரு உருவம் கையிலிருந்த ரைபிளால் சரமாரியாகச் சுடத் தொடங்கியது. அதைத் தொடர்ந்து உழவு இயந்திரத்தைச் சுற்றிலும் தோன்றிய உருவங்கள் கைக்குண்டுகளாலும் ரைபிளாலும் தாக்கத் தொடங்க திருப்பிச் சுடும் திராணியற்றுச் செத்து விழுந்தது மனிதவேட்டைக் கும்பல்.

தலை தெறிக்கத் தப்பி ஓடியோர் போக விழுந்துகிடந்தவர்களிடமிருந்த ஆயுதங்கள் களையப் பட்டன. தாக்கிய உருவங்கள் ஒவ்வொன்றாகப் பின்வாங்கிய பின் வெடிப்புகையும் இரத்தமுமாகக் கிடந்த சாலையில் விழுந்து கிடந்த இந்திய ஆக்கிரமிப்புப் படையினரையும் துரோகிகளையும் ஒருமுறை உற்றுப் பார்த்துவிட்டு விடுபட்டுக் கிடந்த மேலுமொரு ஆயுதத்தையும் எடுத்துக் கொண்டு அந்த இடத்தைவிட்டு வெளியேறிய கடைசி உருவம் ரமணன்.

அந்தச் சண்டையின் வேவு நடவடிக்கையைத் திட்டமிட்டதிலிருந்து கடைசியாக நின்று போராளிகளைப் பாதுகாப்பாக மறைவிடத்திற்குக் கொண்டு வந்து சேர்த்தது வரை தலைமை தாங்கி நடத்திய ரமணனின் வயது அப்போது 21. பயிற்சி பெற்று ஒரு வருடம்தான் ஆகியிருந்தது.

கந்தையா உலகநாதன் என்ற இயற்பெயருடன் பழுகாமத்தில் பிறந்து கண்டுமணி மகாவித்தியாலயத்தில் கல்விகற்று 86ம் ஆண்டின் முற்பகுதியில் போராட்டத்தில் இணைந்து மட்டக்களப்பு 3ம் பாசறையில் பயிற்சி முடித்த ரமணனின் குடும்பம் விடுதலைக்காகச் செலுத்திய விலை சாதாரணமானதல்ல. ரமணன் இயக்கத்தில் இணைந்த சில நாட்களிலேயே அவரின் அண்ணனும் இணைந்து விடுகிறார். இன்னுமோர் அண்ணன் (கந்தையா மோகனதாஸ்) ஆரம்பத்தில் பிறிதொரு அமைப்பில் தனது விடுதலைப் பணியை ஆரம்பித்திருந்தாலும்இ தேசியத் தலைவரின் மகத்துவத்தின்பால் ஈர்க்கப்பட்டு விடுதலைப் புலிகளுக்கு ஆதரவாகச் செயற்பட்டுக் கொண்டிருந்த போது இந்தியப் படையாலும் துரோகிகளாலும் கொடூரமான முறையில் கொல்லப்பட்டவர்.

அடுத்த தங்கையும் போராளியாக பல வருடங்களை நிறைவு செய்தவர். இன்னுமொரு சகோதரர் போராளியாக இருந்து இப்போது காவற்றுறையில் பணியாற்றுபவர். போராட்டத்தை அன்றிலிருந்து இன்றுவரை வருடிக்கொடுக்கும் அவரின் தாயார் அனுபவித்த வேதனைகளும் கொஞ்சமல்ல. அடிக்கடி தேடிவரும் படைகளுக்கும் தொடரும் துரோகிகளுக்கும் ஈடுகொடுப்பதிலேயே அந்தத் தாயின் வாழ்கை கழிந்து கொண்டிருந்தது.

அவ்வாறான ஒரு சம்பவத்தில் ஆத்திரமுற்ற எதிரிகள் அவரின் வீட்டைக் குண்டு வைத்துத் தரைமட்டமாகத் தகர்த்து விடுகிறார்கள். அவரின் தங்கை வீட்டில் தஞ்சமடையஇ அந்த வீடும் தாக்குதலுக்கு உள்ளாகிறது. இவ்வாறான சோதனைகள் சூழ்ந்த வாழ்க்கையினுள்ளும் எதிரி மீதான தனது தாக்குதல்களில் சற்றும் தளர்வைக் காட்டியவரல்ல ரமணன். தனது வீட்டை எதிரிகள் நெருங்குவதை அறிந்து அங்கே வைக்கப் பட்டிருந்த மரங்களுக்குக் கீழே பொறி குண்டை அமைத்துவிட்டு விலகிச் செல்ல அங்கேவந்து அடாவடி செய்த படையினர் இருவர் கொல்லப்படுகிறார்கள். பலர் காயமடைகிறார்கள்.

தேசியத் தலைவரின் கெரில்லாத் தந்திரோபாயங்களுக்கு மிகச் சிறந்த முறையில் களநிலை வடிவம் தந்தவர்களில் ரமணனும் ஒருவர். எந்தப் பொருள் எப்போது வெடிக்கும் எங்கிருந்து சன்னங்கள் கிளம்பும் என்று இரவும் பகலும் எதிரியை ஏங்கவைத்த பெருமை ரமணனுக்கே உண்டு. நியுட்டன் அவர்கள் மட்டக்களப்பில் இருந்தபோது தனது புலனாய்வு வாழ்வின் முதல் அத்தியாயத்தைத் துவக்கிய ரமணன்இ துரோகி ஒழிப்பிலும் ஊடுருவல்களை முறியடிப்பதிலும் தனது தனித்துவ முத்திரையை பதித்திருக்கிறார்.

ரமணனைக் கொல்வதற்கான பல சதிகளை சிறிலங்கா புலனாய்வுப் பிரிவினர் மேற்கொண்டிருந்த போதும் அத்திட்டங்கள் அனைத்துமே ரமணனின் நுட்பமான தகவற் கட்டமைப்பால் முறியடிக்கப்பட்டன. அவரின் தந்திரோபயச் செயற்பாடுகள் தாயகத்திற்கு வெளியிலும் நீண்டிருந்தன. ரமணனின் புலனாய்வுப் பேறுகளைப் பட்டியலிடுவது சிரமம்.

தேவை கருதி அவர் மாவட்ட மட்டத்தில் பணியாற்ற வேண்டியதாயிற்று” என்கிறார்

Senior LTTE Commander Col. Balraj, addressing the people gathered in Kilinochchi Wednesday to pay respects to Tiger Senior Commander Col. Ramanan said Ramanan was a gifted planning Commander skilled in handling information. Meanwhile, the Tiger Intelligence Chief Pottu, in an interview to the National Television of Tamil Eelam (NTT), on Wednesday revealed that Ramanan was a key brain behind the weakening of the Razeek paramilitary group in Batticaloa, sources from Kilinochchi said.LTTE Special Commander Col. Colonel Balraj speaking at the event said that Ramanan’s sudden appearance in an unexpected location, was one of the main reasons that forced renegade Karuna to abandon the idea of holding a ground in Batticaloa, and flee from his base.Col. Balraj”One of the key strategies of the LTTE is its impenetrable secrecy,” Balraj said. “Col. Ramanan had served the liberation struggle for 20 long years. Even I didn’t have the opportunity to meet him until a few months ago. Not all of our key cadres are exposed to the world outside,” Col. Balraj said.

Striking a political note, Col. Balraj said that among all the leaders in the south, Ranasinghe Premadasa was a realist. Of all the Sinhala leaders, he was one who had the courage to strike a deal,” observed Balraj.

“But, he too was poisoned by the deep rooted Sinhala supremacist mindset.”

“Having slain the JVP rebel leader Rohana Wijeweera, Premadasa thought he could deal in the same way with our leadership,” Balraj said.

“Now, the incumbent Sri Lankan president too is pursuing a similar path leading his nation to a dead end,” Balaraj said.

“The Fourth Eelam War will be the final war, and a terrible war that will bring the long awaited liberation to our people and our homeland. We are certainly positioned to be victorious. The people are with us and our leader will lead us to victory,” concluded Balraj.

The event, paying homage to Col. Ramanan was held in the Cultural Hall in Kilinochchi around 4.00 p.m Wednesday presided by Mr. S. Sivapalan of Kilinochchi district Upsurging Assembly, began with the lighting of the Principal Flame by Pon. Thiyagam, the officer in charge of Martyrs Resting Homes, attended by several key commanders, public figures and large number of local residents.

The two bothers of Col. Ramanan, LTTE cadres, garlanded Late. Ramanan’s photograph while Senior Commander Col. Balraj, Deputy political head S. Thangan and Thamilini Head of the Women political wing, garlanded the photograph.

Thamilini, addressing the audience said, “We have, in the struggle for freedom, lost able combatants and talented commanders at its various stages. Col. Ramanan’s demise comes as a shock to all of us. His death has brought us unbearable pain and grief, she said.

“It is an unenviable position for a warrior to carry out his tasks in the period driven by dangerous agenda of the Sri Lanka Government hidden behind a ficticious peace process. Col. Ramanan, though facing a cunning and calculated shadow war unleashed on Tamil Eelam by the Sinhala Lanka, built up our strength and forces in Southern Tamil Eelam through his extraordinary skill as military leader and the rapport he enjoyed with the people of the region and our combatants.

“Each tragic loss in our struggle for liberation leaves us injected with fresh vigour and determination. Col. Ramanan is not dead. He is here with us in the numerous combatants in whom he had instilled all his talents and tactics. They will surely win us the beautiful Southern Tamil Eelam.” said Thamilini.

Col. Ramesh, paying tribute to Late. Col. Ramanan said, “Ramanan stood steadfast by our leader when Karuna turned traitor. With the skill of an efficient surgeon he successfully removed the poisonous elements in Southern Front. Though he has been taken from us unexpectedly, the plans he drew for the complete liberation of Southern Tamil Eelam and the many cadres he trained for the mission are with us. We will fulfill his dreams when we redeem the entire Tamil Eelam soon.”

Peace sacrificed for counter insurgency by Colombo – Col. Jeyam [TamilNet, Wednesday, 24 May 2006, 17:42 GMT]

“The Sri Lankan government and its forces, obsessed with the idea of destroying our movement, has, without realising the strategic advantages of making peace, used various counter insurgency tactics throughout the peace process to kill our cadres,” said Colonel Jeyam, a top commander of the LTTE, addressing crowds gathered in Mullaitivu to pay their respects to Colonel Ramanan, who was assassinated Sunday by a Sri Lanka Army sniper.

Ramanan, Deputy Head of the LTTE Military wing of Batticaloa district was shot dead Sunday whilst inspecting the LTTE Forward Defence Line at Vavunathivu in Batticaloa. After paying their respects, senior LTTE commander and officials delivered speeches paying tribute to Ramanan, saluting his exemplary personal qualities and hailing his accomplishments during his twenty years dedicated service to the Tamil freedom struggle.

“Col. Ramanan was a great inspiration for the fighters in the east of the island. He skilfully liberated our territories from Karuna when he defected to the enemy. Ramanan then went on to build up a strong force there under Commander Bhanu,” Colonel Jeyam said.

“We remember how in 1987 we lost two of our District Commanders, Pulendran and Kumarappa, when the Indians, mediating between the Sri Lankans and us, failed to save the lives of our commanders who were abducted [by the Sri Lanka Navy] in the seas during that peace engagement.”

“That tactic didn’t help the enemy quell our movement. In fact, few believed that we could resist the world’s fourth largest military might. But we did. We did so under the strategic guidance of our leadership and with the support base of our people. Even when we were forced to withdraw from Jaffna, the urban base, and lead the Tamil struggle from the remote jungles of Manal Aru, we achieved the unthinkable this way.”

“We have shaken hands with the enemy on four different occasions in a bid to resolve the conflict peacefully. During this latest internationally assisted four-year peace engagement, our representatives have gone around and shook hands with many diplomats in Europe.”

“The whole world has had the opportunity to come here during the peace process, if they truly wanted to understand our situation. Can we expect those who failed to understand our political plight during the last four years of peaceful engagement to ever be able to understand it? What do you think?” asked Colonel Jeyam.

“I can see the people of Tamil Eelam getting ready for the war. We know where we should stand –on the power of our people’s support, the guidance of our leader, on the sacrifices we have made for freedom in our own territory, be it Vavuniya, Jaffna, Mannar, Manal Aru, Batticaloa or Amparai.”

“Nobody can defeat us now when the Tamil people have resolved to decide our own destiny,” Colonel Jeyam further said.

“Two different but complimentary tactics have been adopted by the successive Sinhala regimes to quell the Tamil freedom struggle led by the LTTE. The peace process is the soft side of this strategy while the hard one is the systematic killings of our able commanders and talented Tamil activists.”

“But our enemies are wrong in assuming that they can weaken us. Experience shows that both the struggle and the LTTE grow in strength and power after each assassination and each peace process.”

“Ramanan’s loss is of course irreparable. But he has dedicated his very life as a stepping stone in the direction of victory which we will taste soon,” said Col. Jeyam.

The event in Vanni paying homage to Colonel Ramanan was held at Puthukudiruppu Sri Subramaniam Maha Vidyalayam Wednesday around 10.30 a.m. headed by the President of Mullaitivu District People Consortium, Mr. Vethavanam.

Thamilarasan, Col. Ramanan’s brother and Odduchuddan Regional Head of the LTTE, lit the lamp before the late officer’s portrait while another brother, Parathan, an LTTE cadre, garlanded it.

Colonel Ramesh lit the flame of sacrifice at the event and garlanded Col. Ramanan’s portrait. He was joined by Colonel Jeyam, senior LTTE member Mr. K. V. Balakumaran, Peace Secretariat Director, Mr. S. Pulidevan, Mr. Illanthirayan (Marshall) of the Peace Secretariat, Mr. Seeralan, Deputy Head of the political wing in Batticaloa District and Mr. S. Selvanayagam, the principal of the Maha Vidyalam.

Mr. Illanthirayan, former head of the LTTE Political Wing in Batticaloa, following Col. Jeyam, hailed the personal qualities of Col. Ramanan.

“Martyr Ramanan, knew every one in the southern Tamil Eelam and everyone there knew him. He was a master in translating our movement’s leader’s political and military strategies into skilful techniques in practice,” Mr. Illanthirayan said.

“It was Colonel Ramanan who surmounted the efforts by the traitor Karuna to split the LTTE through the wedge of regionalism. Though he is no more with us, the techniques and tactics Colonel Ramanan developed will be with us in our struggle to achieve our desired goal,” said Mr. Ilanthirayan.

Colonel Ramesh said: “Ramanan’s feats in the fields of war and intelligence cannot be covered in a short speech. He comes from a family which has been in the forefront of resistance to Sri Lanka armed forces. He has nine siblings, out of which two brothers and a sister are members of LTTE.”

“All his feats in the struggle are not known because the victories he reaped and the way in which he achieved them cannot be openly revealed now.”

“He was a great source of strength and a talented fighter in southern Tamil Eelam and he was killed precisely for these incredible qualities,” said Col. Ramesh.

Mr. K. V. Balakumaran said, “We already owe a great deal to the people of southern Tamil Eelam. I had admired Col. Ramanan for his wonderful personality which had two distinct sides. One was filled with spontaneous love and the other replete with military skill and intelligence. People possessing this unique blend of qualities rarely live long. Usually they die young. We have an exemplary model in Ramanan to be emulated in pursuing our liberation struggle.”

Col. Ramanan’s remains buried with military honours in Thandiyady [TamilNet, Thursday, 25 May 2006, 01:18 GMT]

The remains of Col. Ramanan, the Deputy Head of the LTTE Military wing, assassinated by a Sri Lanka Army (SLA) sniper at Vavunativu Forward Defence Line (FDL) Sunday the 21st May 2006 was buried with military honour at the Thandiyady Martyrs Resting Home Wednesday evening around 6.00 p.m, attended by several leading citizens, LTTE cadres and residents of Amparai and Batticaloa districts, sources in Batticaloa said. Late Col. Ramanan, Deputy Commander of Batticaloa – Amparai Military Wing of the LTTEBlack flags were flown along streets, and shops, schools, offices and other institutions in Batticaloa Amparai districts were closed as the districts residents paid respects to the senior Commander Ramanan, a native Pallukamam in Batticaloa, sources said.

Late Ramanan’s remains was first kept Sunday at Thenaham in Karadiyanaru for people to pay their last respects and later at Kokkadicholai Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalayam. It was then taken to Pallukamam Kandumani Maha Vidyalayam through Mahiladitivu, his wife’s birth village.

From Palukamam it was then taken Wednesday to Vellaveli and kept at Kalaimahal Vidyalayam and later taken through Perativu to Thandiyady Maha Vidyalayam around 3.00 p.m, where residents paid homage.LTTE Special Commander Col. Bhanu paying last respects to Col. Ramanan in Batticaloa.

After ceremonial offering flowers, the remains was brought to Thandiyady Martyrs Resting Home where it was buried around 6.00 p.m with military honours, LTTE sources said.

Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian Mr. P. Ariyanenthiran, LTTE Batticaloa district Commander Col. Banu, Batticaloa Political Head Thayamohan, Women Political Head Kuveni, Commander Piraba, Chief of Head Office Amuthan, Head of Rajan College Keethan, LTTE Division Commanders, Combatants and several hundred people participated in the final rites.

Thayamohan presided at the event where Col. Banu, Kuveni, Amuthan, Keethan and P. Ariyanenthiran M. P. spoke praising the contribution of Col.Ramanan to Tamil eelam struggle.

A hartal condemning Col. Ramanan’s assassination was observed in Kalvanchchikudi from Tuesday and there was no traffic to Kalmunai, sources said.
